Rachel Cafferty, MD is a pediatric emergency medicine physician and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children's Hospital Colorado. Her clinical, research, and quality improvement work focuses on improving the identification, assessment, and treatment of youth experiencing mental and behavioral health crises, with a particular emphasis on suicide prevention in emergency care settings. Dr. Cafferty has led system-wide implementation of depression and suicide screening initiatives across pediatric emergency and urgent care settings, serves on multiple local and national pediatric mental health collaboratives, and has published extensively on youth suicide risk screening, care transitions, and evidence-based interventions for adolescents in crisis. Her long-term goal is to advance innovative, equitable, and scalable approaches that improve outcomes for youth with behavioral health needs in the Emergency Department.
