Aaron Jensen, MD MEd MS FACS FAAP

Dr. Aaron R. Jensen, MD, MEd, MS, FACS, FAAP is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of California San Francisco and the Trauma Medical Director at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. He completed medical school at Temple University, surgery residency at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center, and fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery as well as in Pediatric Trauma/Critical Care at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Jensen is triple board certified in Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery.
He serves as the Trauma Domain Co-Lead at the Federally funded Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Innovation and Improvement Center (EIIC), where his work focuses on pediatric trauma systems and pediatric preparedness to ensure that children receive high quality initial resuscitative care after injury regardless of where they initially present. He is active with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma as the Vice-Chair for Pediatrics for Northern California as well as the national Vice-Chair for the Quality Pillar and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) area. Dr. Jensen also serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Surgery’s Trauma, Burn, and Critical Care Board in an effort to promote excellence and the highest quality standards for Surgical Critical Care practitioners. He currently serves as the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program Director at UCSF and is dedicated to training the next generation of pediatric surgeons.
His research focuses on quality improvement in pediatric trauma care, and addresses real issues that impact injured children – particularly as it relates to pediatric readiness at non-pediatric centers and within the overall context of the trauma system as well as improving resuscitation processes and care pathways at quaternary pediatric trauma centers. Dr. Jensen has specific expertise in the use of simulation to develop and maintain interdisciplinary teamwork skills and clinical performance of multidisciplinary resuscitation team.
