Charles Macias, MD MPH
Charles Macias is the Chief Quality Officer and Vice Chair of Quality for the University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s system of care and Division Chief for Pediatric Emergency Medicine in Cleveland, OH.
He served as a co-chair of Children’s Hospital Association’s Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcomes quality improvement collaborative- a collaborative of 66 children’s hospital that has decreased mortality and health care burden from pediatric sepsis. He served as the chair of the Board Committee on Policy for the American Academy of Pediatrics (2023-24), the committee that provided oversight for the development of pediatric clinical guidelines, clinical and technical reports, and policy statements disseminated in over 45 countries. He maintains a portfolio of over $80 million in federal grants addressing readiness to care for children through foundations of quality. He is the 2025 recipient of the Brent James First in Quality lifetime achievement award in pediatric quality and safety.
Dr Macias is a co-principal investigator for three national centers that are transforming the healthcare space for better everyday readiness and disaster readiness: the EMS for Children Innovation and Improvement Center, the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, and the Pediatric Pandemic Network.
