Pediatric Disaster Medicine Curriculum
This is an easily accessible disaster medicine curriculum that will educate pediatric healthcare providers on critical disaster medicine topics, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for children involved in disasters. As disasters increase in frequency and intensity on a global scale, the vulnerability of children during disasters becomes more apparent. Children are vulnerable on a variety of levels including physically, mentally, and emotionally, as was made clear with the repercussions suffered by so many children throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Pediatric healthcare providers are obligated to advocate for child health, but often are not sure how best to do this in a disaster situation. Most pediatric healthcare providers receive minimal or no disaster medicine training throughout their training or residency. However, pediatric healthcare providers should be able to prepare families, mitigate poor outcomes, or assist in recovery of a disaster.
