Dr. Darren Eblovi grew up in Boulder and studied economics and Spanish at DePauw University in Indiana. Before attending medical school at the University of Colorado, he was a Peace Corps Volunteer for the Rural Health and Sanitation program in El Salvador. During medical school he evaluated children in El Trifinio, Guatemala, for parasites and anemia, and participated in vaccine delivery research with CU's Children’s Outcome Research program (now ACCORDS). He completed pediatric residency training at the University of Chicago, during which time he took 2 trips to Ghana to train rural midwives on basic newborn resuscitation skills.
Dr. Eblovi joined the faculty of Northwestern University as a pediatric hospitalist in 2016, where he worked full-time clinically until 2019. He began volunteering for One World Surgery (OWS) by leading a cost-effectiveness analysis of the surgeries performed at the organization's first site of Honduras in 2017, and he became the Interim Medical Director of the Dominican Republic site in 2019. While the surgery center was under construction, OWS DR hosted primary care outreach clinics in the surrounding communities with ~200 week-long visiting volunteers per year and hired 4 local physicians to provide follow-up care. Dr. Eblovi and his family lived primarily in the DR for four years until moving back to Colorado in June 2023. Since then, Dr. Eblovi has been a faculty member of Children's Hospital Colorado in the Section of Hospital Medicine. He has been the Medical Director of the University of Colorado Hospital Level 1 Nursery since July 2024.
