Kelly Lyons, DO
Dr. Kelly A. Lyons is a pediatric critical care physician at Norton Children's Hospital "Just for Kids" Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Originally from Buffalo, NY, Dr. Lyons completed her undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry, and American Sign Language at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 2010. Following, she attended and graduated from medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA. She completed a Internal Medicine and Pediatric Residency at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine in 2018 and was Chief Resident in her fourth year. Given her passion for critical care and pediatrics, she pursued Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Louisville where she successfully graduated in 2021 and started as Assistant Professor and faculty member with the Norton Children's PICU.
She is strongly interested in medical education and is the incoming Assistant Program Director for the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and is actively involved in the teaching of medical students, residents, fellows, and hospital staff regarding pediatric critical care topics and communication with families. She additionally has a passion for pediatric palliative care and has been a physician on the Pediatric Support Team (pediatric palliative care team) at Norton Children's Hospital since 2022. Her research primarily focuses on education and the integration of pediatric palliative care within the ICU, communication with families, and promoting resiliency and wellness amongst staff through investigation of second victim syndrome. She is the Director of the START program - Supporting Tracheostomies and Related Technology at Norton Children's and enjoys caring for children with complex medical needs.
