John Luker is a seasoned emergency medical services professional with more than three decades of experience in prehospital care, fire service, and specialized rescue operations. He began his career in EMS as an Explorer with Louisville EMS in the mid-1980s and went on to earn an Associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Care from Eastern Kentucky University in 1988.

He started his professional career as an EMT with Yellow Ambulance before joining Louisville EMS as a paramedic in 1989. Following the integration into the Louisville Fire EMS Bureau in 1995, John completed the Louisville Fire Recruit Acadamy and became a Firefighter/Paramedic in 2000. Throughout his career, he primarily served in downtown Louisville and the Original Highlands, gaining extensive experience in both emergency medical response and fire suppression.

In addition to his operational duties, John was an active member of several specialized teams, including Hazardous Materials (HazMat), Structural Collapse, Trench Rescue, and Confined Space Rescue. He retired from Louisville Fire as a Captain in 2014.

Immediately following his retirement, John continued his dedication to public service by joining Oldham County EMS as a field paramedic. He has since served in leadership roles including Education Officer and currently holds the positions of Operations Officer and Pediatric Emergecny Care Coordinator (PECC).

John remains actively engaged in community and regional initiatives, serving on the Oldham County Task Force, Healthy Oldham County Task Force, and as the EMS representative on the HERA Coalition Executive Board.

Outside of his professional life, John enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, and biking, as well as reading, history and music. He has been married for over 30 years and has two adult children.
