Annette Newman (Matherly), MS, RN, CCRN, serves as a Disaster Preparedness Consultant with the Utah Hospital Association, the Western Region Burn Disaster Coordinator for the American Burn Association and the Utah State Coordinator for the Western Regional Alliance for Pediatric Emergency Management. She also supports Network Operations for the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN).
With more than 35 years of experience in burn intensive care, Annette has focused her career on strengthening disaster response and healthcare readiness. She supports burn disaster coordination across a 13-state region, partnering with EMS, hospitals, public health agencies, and federal organizations to improve collaborative response capabilities.
A seasoned speaker and collaborative leader, Annette has guided numerous grant-funded initiatives, disaster exercises, and national planning efforts. She contributes to disaster readiness through ongoing partnerships with the ABA, the American Hospital Association’s Emergency Readiness Group and ASPR TRACIE. Her multi-state coordination with the PPN and WRAP-EM further supports pediatric-focused preparedness across systems. Annette remains dedicated to advancing practical, systems-level improvements in disaster resilience—emphasizing education, collaboration, and real-world application.
