Charmaine Lo, PhD, MPH
Dr. Lo is a Senior Research Scientist in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute. She has led and coauthored a wide variety of qualitative research studies related to pediatric topics and has expertise in mixed methods approaches. She spent several years as an Epidemiologist with a private insurance company, utilizing administrative claims data to measure healthcare performance metrics and quality in several pay-for-performance initiatives. Prior to that she was a Post-Doctoral Associate at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where she evaluated a statewide program aimed at improving placement stability and outcomes for children with complex trauma in the care of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. She received her Doctorate in Clinical and Population Health Research from the University of Massachusetts Medical School; her dissertation assessed the effects of family and social engagement on the screen time of youth with developmental disabilities. She received her MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her BS in Microbiology from Michigan State University. Her research interests include pediatric mental health care utilization, children with special healthcare needs, health equity, and healthcare policy.
