Ian Kodish, MD, PhD

Dr. Kodish is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science and at the University of WA, where he also serves as Associate Training Director for the child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship program. He has a background in neuroscience focused on the relationship between neuroplasticity and brain development, and how these are impacted by both psychopathology and pharmacotherapy. He serves as Medical Director of the inpatient psychiatry consult service at Seattle Children's Hospital, treating youth presenting with acute emotional and behavioral crises, often with medical comorbidities. He has co-developed multiple inpatient treatment protocols utilizing clinical standard work processes to improve the quality of care for patients presenting with restrictive eating, substance use disorders, and catatonia. He is a member of the mental health domain for the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN) working to improving coordination and management of pediatric behavioral health needs in the emergency department, including utilization of telepsychiatry to improve access to consultation and treatment.
