Marie Lozon, Clinical Professor Emerita of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics
Marie M. Lozon, MD, is a pediatric emergency physician and an Emerita Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at Michigan Medicine. She trained at the Universi-ty of Chicago Medical Center in general pediatrics, followed by fellowship training in pe-diatric emergency medicine and joined the faculty at the University Michigan in 1991. She retired from the role of Chief of Staff at Michigan Medicine in 2024 (leading nearly 4000 privileged providers) having served 7 years. She served several academic and operational roles before being elected Chief of Staff, including Associate Chief of Staff, Associate Chief Clinical Officer of the Children’s and Women’s Hospitals. She was the Associate Chief of Emergency Management for several years, assisting Michigan Medi-cine in disaster preparedness efforts but with special emphasis on pediatric disaster needs. She served as the leader of University of Michigan Health’s Scarce Resource Allocation Committee both before and during the COVID pandemic and has a special academic interest in Crisis Standards of Care as applied to pediatric care. Dr. Lozon has trained in hospital incident command with FEMA and has been an invited speaker about disaster preparedness at local, regional, state, national and international confer-ences and symposia. She has deployed internationally to lead teams in response to large scale natural disasters. Dr. Lozon has authored scholarly publications and books on disaster preparedness and is federally funded by HRSA and the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) to study optimal preparedness for pedi-atric victims.
