​​The goal of this activity is to improve disaster preparedness in pediatric primary care settings by equipping practices with the tools, knowledge, and processes to better respond to emergencies that affect children and families. The program aims to build a foundation of emergency management understanding, improve communication during crises, and support quality improvement efforts to strengthen office readiness. The target audience, primary care physicians, nurses, and office staff, need to understand the unique vulnerabilities children face during disasters and take proactive steps to incorporate disaster readiness into routine care. By participating in structured Zoom learning sessions and quality improvement work, practices will be better prepared to deliver safe, coordinated care during disasters.​

Learning Objectives

  1. Implement all four Required Pediatric Disaster Preparedness domains  
  2. Implement at least one Tier 1 domain to improve disaster readiness in the area of vaccine storage and safety or planning for children with special health care needs
  3. Implement at least two Tier 2 domains from​ emergency kits-office and staff, surge planning and infection control planning for biologic disaster, Telehealth, and incorporating disaster preparedness education/materials into WCC​
  4. ​Track progress using monthly environmental scans and apply lessons learned to increase the clinic’s overall pediatric disaster readiness score.​
